(<333 Jun)
The twilight was setting in, drowning the sky. Westly walked out of the shop, flipping the OPEN sign to the CLOSED and unconsciously straightening his inch hair up. Not like it could fall with the glop of gel he had used today--he was planning on using less in the future. Click, key in place. He shoved the chain in his butt-pocket and strode off down the street.
Short, I need to warm up xDDD

{UHM. YEAH. xDD}
The last thing on Keran's mind was going home. Huddled in the gray hoodie, she zipped it up to her chin and threw the hood over the tawny hair. Too bad it was sorta chilly out tonighttt. Looks like she'd be going home early tonight, anyway.
So, silently cursing the cool air, she continued on, determined to avoid the hellish homeeee.

His boots clapped the brickway. As he walked he took out his wallet and Westly slipped a little piece of newspaper from a creditcard slot. The name of a club was jotted down on it: Bloodoak. (Yeah, yeah. I stole it. Sue me. And of course: Where else to go but a bar?)
Alright, so that's where he was headed, then. He cut a left into the next alley. He'd lived here long enough to know to avoid the cops this late at night.

The sharp gray eyes brushed across the sign. "Bloodoak...?" Her voice was soft as she spoke. As if confused... because she was. She'd never noticed this place before. So inside she was, despite the fact that she didn't have any money. But, oh well. At least it offered warmth. In a better place than her home, anyway. Her hood fell as she walked in - perfect timing - and she approached the bar, taking a seat.

Westly breezed in the doorway heading straight toward the counter. "A beer, please," he told the man and straddled a chair. As he waited he glanced around the room, not really seeing anything. He was here a bit early, really, but didn't care--let him drink in the atmosphere for a bit. Then he began to relapse the whole situation, something very off-character for him.
It had all started a week ago. Well, maybe a bit before that. He often opened and locked shop for Grayton these days (he was getting so old for pete's sake). Right as he was closing up one evening at twilight, always at twilight it was, Westly heard a distant jingling noise and turned to see a boy run up. He held an envelope before him and was doubled over heaving for breath like he had run here from wherever. "Please!" the boy said, his voice a bit raspy from the run, "I want for you to deliver this letter!" Westly had just laughed, slightly startled by this sudden appearance and unbelieving. "Can't you see, kid? I just closed up. To deliver a letter now would encompass going back and writing down all the important information." He laughed again.
The boy had been very upset. He looked up now, his face still bright red with exhaustion. "Don't go back, then! I'll pay you extra! Please, I just beg of you to bring this to the address!" Westly was not one to normally be swayed by money, but these days rent was going up. "What do you mean? Extra? You know more than half of what I make goes to my master when I run a recorded errand," he explained as if this should asnwer all the boy's questions. Which it didn't. "Then don't mark it down. Your master cannot be here if you're locking up. Keep all the money, just please deliver it tonight." This boy was crazy. Not record it? That would be untruthful to Grayton. Then again, deliveries weren't exactly cheep, and if he got to keep all the money it could help pay his debt from last month's rent...
"Where to?" Westly asked, not relenting his wariness. The boy instantly became visibly relieved. "It's inside the envelope," he explained. "Within that envelope is the money and a note with the address, along with the envelope that I want delivered." He placed the object in question into Westly's outstretched hands and Westly felt it thick and heavy with coins. "Alright, I'll deliver it," he said, relenting. "Tonight?" the boy prompted intently. "Tonight," he promised. Then the boy was off, sprinting back off the street.
Concerned with the oddity of the whole matter, but also feeling a bit inquisitive, Westly had ripped open the envelope and spilled the coins into his hand. He counted fifteen dollars and nearly blanched in surprise. Surely that was too much. Now he felt like a swindler--something that didn't weigh lightly on his conscience. He held the envelope open between two fingers and pried out a similar one, sending a small scrap of paper fluttering towards the street. He bent quickly to retrieve it, then straightened back up and examined the other envelope which he was to deliver.
This one was also quite thick and bulged at one crushed corner. He poked at it, ready to see whatever was inside, then remembered that a good deliverer should never poke about at other's messages. Of course this wasn't necessarily a regular job, but Westly felt he had to uphold good etiquite since he was breaking just about every other of Grayton's rules. The glanced at the address and again blanched. Although the address was in an side alley, it was hardly a mile away. Surely the boy could have gone that extra mile? Why pay so much just to deliver something so close? If that bo ever came again Westly would turn him down. Or so he thought.
Briskly he set off for the street and quickly found the place. It was merely a dank door in a dark back alley with a buzzing, faint light flickering above. He knocked at the door and waited. Nothing. He waited a moment more before knocking again. Again he waited, impatiently. Nothing. Westly was getting frustrated. He just wanted to get back to his apartment!

Clink. He was brought back to the present as the bar-tender set Westly's beer down in front of him. He smiled briefly and handed over the cash. The waiter left to take care of the next customer and Westly slowly drifted back to his story, sipping at his drink.
Finally, as he had been about to turn and leave, a muffled voice called from within. "Come in," it simply said. For a slip second (Edit: yeah, that's supposed to be "split", but "slip second" sounds really cool so I'm leaving it. xD) Westly pondered over the voice: was it a man's or a woman's? (He quite thought it a woman's). Then he turned the handle and walked in. The interior was merely a hall with dark, peeling wallpaper and a few doors near the end. A dusty light shone from the only cracked door and he could see a slight wisp of smoke billowing with the light.
He approached the door and hesitantly knocked, pressing it open. "Don't!" a voice--the same voice--snapped. His hand withdrew swiftly. "You've brought a letter for me, I suppose?" she asked, for he was certain now it was female. He replied affirmatively. "Good. Well then I suppose you can just slip it under my door. I'll pick it up for myself."
These instructions were beyond weird, but he slipped the envelope under the door. It was so thick it just barely made it. As he straightened back up he took a quick glance through the cracked door; what he saw came as a confused surprise. He could just see a plush couch, two slender legs laying on it and he could picture a woman draping herself upon it. Yet again he waited, but when she made no effort to move or reply he asked, "So I can keep this money? All of it?"
The woman laughed and her legs (he assumed now they belonged to her) folded into a new position. "Yes, boy, you may," she told him. "Now run along. If I'm not mistaken it is getting quite dark, is it not?" So Westly turned and left.

He had tried to forget the expirence afterward, Westly mused as he swirled his beer around. And he had done quite a good job, too. But--of course, there's always a 'but'--a couple of days later the boy returned, this time not running so hard but jogging. "Sir, would you please deliver this letter to the same place?" Westly, who had watched the boy run up with an omnious feeling growing within, shook his head. "Kid, why can't you deliver it yourself?" he asked. Yet the boy looked him in the eye with eminent fear. "She told me not to. She told me I couldn't. So I've come to you." His explination knocked away Westly's last bit of courage. He was fairly sure "she" was the woman within that room.
"Alright kid, same as last time?" Westly asked the boy. The boy nodded, the relief again washing over his face. "Is this the last time?" Westly couldn't help but add. No such luck. "I'm not sure, but I don't think it's the exact last one..." the boy said. "But you will deliver any more, won't you? Please!" He looked so pathetic as he pleaded that Westly let his gaze drop. "Sure kid. Alright."

So Westly found himself at the door once more, knocking, gaining entrance and being brought before the second last door in the hall. "Ma'am, I've got another envelope for you," he said this time. He heard her chuckle. "You know what to do, kid." So he bent and slid it under, this one just as thick as the last. Through the partially cracked door he was able to catch sight of the couch and legs once more, although this time he could see part of a gauze skirt towards the upper legs. "Thank you, you may go now," she instructed with a sense of authority and Westly was off again, almost relieved to be gone from the odd house, if it was indeed her house.
Two days later as he turned the key in the lock the familiar patter of footsteps reached his ears. "Again?" Westly asked as he turned to face the boy, who today no more than skipped to meet him. "Yes, sir, I have another envelope," he replied. "You promised to deliver it, remember?" he asked as if he was unsure Westly would remember. "Yeah kid, I remember. I'll bring it to her." The young boy did nothing but smile even though Westly had referred to the woman.
Westly rapped on the outside door and walked to where the woman resided. "Ah, you again," she said in greeting and Westly nodded before realizing she couldn't see him. "Well then, son, slip the last one under the door." He stopped mid-bend. "The last one?" he asked. "Oh yes," the woman replied, "The boy has given me all the information I need." Westly nearly laughed with relief. The last one. Oh thank God. He bent further down and passed the envelope under the door.
Pressing his leg he got up. Yet he glanced through the crack in the door and froze halfwy up. Through the thin line a face met him. He stared enraptured at the smooth peach skin and a honey colored eye. "You've done your job well," her voice said, her mouth moving slightly. "No questions, immediate compliance. I bet you're a bit curious, eh? If you don't mind I'd like to meet you sometime." Westly only nodded, still watching the small view of her face. Something came over her face--a smile he thought. "Good, meet me here in two days," she instructed and the door opened wide enough to fit her slim hand through. He caught the stray slip of paper and glanced up in hopes of catching a better glimsp of her as well. But she had already turned and he could see the side of her heading back to her couch.
For the next two days he had fought of the idea of coming. He really had no reason to, but somehow he still found himself here tonight.
ooc; I know, really long. But it's a background story. And I needed something to keep me busy while you were gone.

As for Keran, she ordered just a plain old glass of vodka, nothing special, then proceeded to gather the loose coins in her pocket. Damn... twenty short. Oh well. She'd drop by later with the missing change.
For now, her head was wandering. This was the very last scraps of money she'd manged to steal from mommy. Practically everything was stolen from that woman. Mainly money... Because Nadine didn't care enough about her daughter to clothe, feed, bathe her daughter... Or put the drugs in her system. Speaking of which; her hands were shaking horribly from the withdrawls. The drink came and she threw back half the glass in one swig, making a face as it seared down her throat. But instantly, she felt tons better. Not completely, but tons. Good enough for now. Soon she'd have to either dip into Nadine's stash or steal moneys again... Or hope that a blazing buddy was nice enough to donate someee. ... She'd a better chance of Nadine telling her to take the night off or something. Or she was sooo gonna be killed when she finally got home... Maybe she'd avoid it altogether and go... somewhere.
It wasn't like she could report mother, though... The two were illegal immigrants as proven by the stamps that were burnt into their skin at birth. Courtesy of the home country, Monde.
Her eyes brushed across the gloved left hand where the mark had been made and the glass was brought to her lips again. Life could really be a bitch sometimes.

...AND WHAT BETTER WAY TO GET BY THAN GETTING SMASHED EVERY NIGHT?
Which was how it all started. It began with the occasional shot of heroine or morphine just to dull the pain of being knocked around. But you'd never believe how addictive that stuff was. And suddenly, she was hooked on just about everything. Only thing she didn't touch was meth. Because she had no desire to scratch her own skin off.
Finishing off the drink, she slammed the coins on the wood and explained very carefully that she'd pay off the next twenty soon while fixing the rectangular glasses back upon the bridge of her nose. She could really go for another to hold off the withdrawls... But money restricted her.
So she mooched a cigarette off of the guy next to her and settled for a smoke, drawing a knee to her chest and studying the people of the bar.
